The Galleri test is done through a simple blood draw and can detect more than 50 types of cancer in the earliest stages. It works by detecting fragments of DNA in the blood that have been “shed” by cancer cells. Fasting is not required.

Active and retired SFFD firefighters and EMTs who are age 35+ with 5+ years of service in the San Francisco Fire Department are eligible.

There has already been a tremendous response to this offering. There will be 10-11 phlebotomists on site and ideally the process should take 20 minutes.

  • ACTIVE FF: SFFD Administration has arranged for companies to roll in over the four days. You may also walk in.
  • RETIRED FF & EMT: We encourage you to participate. Please call BC Matt Alba’s office at 628-230-3977 to schedule. Leave a message with the date and time that you are planning to attend.
  • WALK-INS: We prefer that you schedule, but if you walk in, we recommend you come in the afternoon, or on the 8th or 9th. Priority will be given to in-service personnel.
  • ACTIVE EMT (Sta. 49): We are making separate arrangements for your testing. You may also walk in.

You can also visit the Galleri website to learn more about their early cancer detection test.
